Debate: How Soon Is "Too Soon" for Christmas?

Hello and welcome back to Hot Takes with Ron. Today's topic of discussion is how soon is "too soon" for Christmas?

As early as August, businesses like Dollarama and Costco are putting out their Christmas gear. Who needs an advent calendar in October when you can buy a box of Halloween candy for the same price? But corporations banking on the holiday spirit is nothing new. Does seeing this spark panic or joy?

So I want to know, from the reader(s), when is it your ideal time to start your Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, winter solstice, Festivus or other November/December recognitions? What ignites your fire when it comes to this topic?

After one day, this video has 1.7 million views. We are not the only ones excited for the new season.

Full disclosure: we pulled a Linda Belcher and our tree is already up. I was not feeling very Halloweeny this year, despite having watched my favourite Halloween episodes. While we put our one bin of Halloween decorations away, we took our plethora of tubs and boxes to adore our house for Christmas. Our tree looks great, thanks to Phil.

Does the environment and weather play a factor into when you set up? I see trees of yellow, red and orange still alive and kicking, which is not the typical colour scheme for the Christmas season. I will not wait for winter to hang my holiday lights - those need to be done when I can still feel my fingers. So should the outside match the inside?

Decorating for Christmas and planning activities has been dependent on other activities like work, travel, or general feelings towards the holiday. Weekends fill up fast towards the end of the year. We received our first holiday invite in September - smart planning on their part, I say.

I start scheduling my movies and special episodes for after Remembrance Day, often starting with the 1998 Canadian classic An Avonlea Christmas (ties in both occasions in my opinion). Streaming services have started highlighting their library of holiday films. The Family Stone will hit differently this year, but are you does your required holiday viewing know any bounds?

Another great debate: is Disney's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" a Halloween or a Christmas movie?

Radio stations - yes, we still listen to some radio stations - like the New 96.1 Buffalo play holiday music on November 1st. Access to your favourite festive hits are always available, but does the music put you in the mood?

What goes into your decision process for when to set up? When do swap cobwebs for snowflakes? Pumpkins for pine trees? Autumn pinecones for winter pinecones, or do those just stay out year round?
